Shooting Erupts at Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl Parade, Leaving 1 Dead and 9 Injured

A shooting broke out in Kansas City, Missouri, following the parade and rally for the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win, which injured at least ten people.

On the 14th (local time), the Kansas City Police Department posted on its official social media account at around 2 PM, saying, “A shooting occurred near Union Station. Please leave the area.”

They added, “The shooting happened west of Union Station, and at least 21 people were wounded in the shooting. Two people had been detained following the shooting for carrying weapons.”

According to foreign media such as the Associated Press, on the same day, a fire department official reported that one person was dead and at least nine were injured by gunfire. Among the identified victims, one is in a non-life-threatening condition, five are seriously injured, and one is in critical condition.

At the time of the incident, a large-scale parade celebrating the Super Bowl victory of the NFL Kansas City Chiefs team was underway.

Some local school districts even closed schools to allow students to participate in the parade, and the enthusiasm for the parade was evident. Kansas City authorities estimated that the number of participants in the event would reach one million.

To manage this large crowd, at least 600 cops were deployed in the area at the time of the shooting.

Also, Travis Kelce, a Chiefs player, participated in the parade. However, according to the Associated Press, Kelce’s girlfriend, pop star Taylor Swift, did not appear to be at the celebrations.

After the incident, the White House said, “President Joe Biden has received a report related to the incident. Federal law enforcement is supporting local law enforcement.”
