Colleague Prevented Pregnant Woman to go on Maternity Leave
Poisoned Her Water

A Chinese woman has been charged with spiking the water of her pregnant coworker in an alleged attempt to harm the pregnancy.

Local media reported on April 1 that an employee working for a government agency in Hubei province allegedly poisoned her coworker’s water multiple times. The investigation revealed the suspect’s motive was to avoid increased workload due to her coworker’s maternity leave, and she intended to cause a miscarriage.

The pregnant employee repeatedly noticed a strange smell in her water. Despite changing it, the smell lingered, so she installed a camera in the office.

The footage captured the suspect covertly pouring an unknown powder into a coworker’s water bottle and quickly leaving the scene. She later reported this to the police.

Confronted by the victim, the suspect admitted to tampering with the water and confessed she couldn’t handle her coworker’s extra workload during her maternity leave alone.

Police investigating the case against the suspect stated, “Our investigation shows the suspect intended to cause harm. Regardless of the specific substance used, this constitutes an assault crime. We take such acts very seriously and will pursue this case to the fullest extent of the law.”

They added, “The relevant department is currently identifying the substance used, and depending on the investigation, appropriate punishment will be given to the suspect.”

The case has sparked outrage on Chinese social media, with viewers online criticizing the suspect’s actions.
