Trump’s Return: A Preview of Executive Orders and Tough Immigration Stance

Tensions are mounting as analysis suggests that Donald Trump, a leading candidate for the Republican Party, may win the election in November next year.

On the 17th (local time), CNN predicted that former President Trump, leading the race for the Republican nomination, would start his second term in office by defeating President Biden, the Democratic Party’s strong candidate in the next election.

CNN speculated that former President Trump would issue unprecedented executive orders to strengthen his grip on power at the White House immediately after taking office. For instance, experts expect him to intensify the crackdown on illegal immigrants at the southern border for immediate deportation, fire federal officials who do not show loyalty to the Trump administration, strengthen protectionism, and enact retaliatory measures against the Biden administration.

CNN also reported the possibility of using judicial authorities to investigate political opponents, including President Biden. Former President Trump had previously targeted the Department of Justice, saying, “I will fire the Marxist prosecutors who are destroying America.”

In addition, CNN reported on former President Trump’s aggressive tariff policy, noting that he could impose a uniform 10% tariff on imported foreign goods.

On the 18th, former President Trump met with supporters in Iowa and said that if he wins the election next year, he will immediately scrap the Biden administration’s Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) trade agreement, which he claims undermines workers’ rights. He criticized the IPEF as a second version of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), a multilateral free trade agreement from which the Trump administration had previously withdrawn.

Meanwhile, former President Trump is leading President Biden by 2-4 percentage points in recent polls conducted by CBS News, CNN, Fox News, Market Law School, and Quinnipiac University. This is a different trend from the past 80 years, where the incumbent president usually led other candidates by an average of 10 percentage points one year before the election. CNN analyzed that President Biden is struggling in the early race due to age and economic issues.
