Donald Trump, a leading candidate for the Republican Party in the United States, mentioned that he could impose a super-high tariff of over 60% on China if he successfully regains power in the upcoming November election.

In an interview with the Fox News program “Sunday Morning Futures,” which aired on the 4th (local time), when asked about whether he would impose additional tariffs on China if he regains power, he responded, “We have to do it.”

Regarding the recent article by The Washington Post (WP) reporting that “Trump is considering applying a 60% tariff to China uniformly when he starts his second term,” he said, “No. I would say it could be more than that.”

During his tenure from 2018 to 2019, Trump sparked a trade war with China by imposing high tariffs that cost billions of dollars on Chinese products. With his direct mention of imposing high tariffs on China again, concerns are growing that the US-China trade war could worsen if Trump successfully regains power.

However, “This is not a trade war, “Trump emphasized on the same day. “I did well with China in all aspects during my presidency.” He added, “I want China to do well,” and “I really like President Xi Jinping. He was a very good friend during my term.”
