President Biden Declines Super Bowl Interview

President Joe Biden has drawn attention for his decision to skip the Super Bowl Interview for the second year in a row, a tradition that former presidents have typically upheld.

According to The New York Times (NYT) and political specialist outlet Politico, this year’s Super Bowl broadcaster, CBS, reported that the White House had declined their request for a Super Bowl interview. CBS had proposed a total of 15-minute interviews with President Biden, of which 3-4 minutes would be aired before the Super Bowl game on February 11th.

The Super Bowl interview, which is aired before the National Football League (NFL) final game, has been a tradition for U.S. presidents since 2009, starting with President Barack Obama. In 2021, President Biden also conducted a Super Bowl interview, which was watched by 1.02 million people in real-time, and his interview footage aired on related programs subsequently garnered millions of views. However, President Biden declined the Super Bowl interview last year, criticizing conservative outlet Fox, which was in charge of the Super Bowl broadcast, for its malicious coverage of him and the Democratic Party. The issue this year is that President Biden declined the interview without a particular reason.

Some speculate that President Biden, who is less active in media interviews than his predecessors and has accumulated distrust of the media, maybe avoiding the heightened risk of aging.
