A horrifying stabbing spree unfolded in a suburban shopping mall in Sydney, Australia.

According to local media outlets such as 7NEWS on April 14, the knife attack occurred around 3:20 PM the previous day at the Westfield shopping center in Bondi, eastern Sydney.

Upon receiving the news, Officer Amy Scott, who was on routine patrol near the mall, immediately arrived at the scene, listened to the accounts of the people in the center, and located the perpetrator.

Scott, pursuing the perpetrator alone, encountered him and ordered him to drop his weapon. However, the perpetrator refused and charged the officer with his knife.

She didn’t hesitate to shoot when the perpetrator didn’t comply with her commands, and the perpetrator died at the scene.

Scott has been hailed as a hero who single-handedly confronted the perpetrator and prevented further casualties.

One witness said, “If she hadn’t pulled the trigger, the perpetrator would have committed more murders.”

After shooting the perpetrator, Scott performed CPR on the victims, who had fallen to the ground due to the perpetrator’s attack.

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese praised Scott, saying there was no doubt that “Officer Scott saved several lives even in a very dangerous situation” and called her “our hero.”

In a press conference held that day, the New South Wales (NSW) Police identified the attacker as 40-year-old Joel Cauchi.

Cauchi had been working as an English tutor in Queensland for several years and had recently moved to Sydney, NSW. He had no criminal record but was known to have suffered from mental health issues in the past.

While the police haven’t found evidence of an ideological motive, they are investigating whether the attack specifically targeted women because five out of the six fatalities were female.
