Why the Latest Chevy Equinox is America’s Answer to Affordable Family SUVs

Trust in Japanese vehicles is high in the US market
Japanese vehicles are actively targeting the US
Chevrolet Equinox competes against this

Trust in Japanese vehicles has traditionally been strong in the US. Brands like Honda and Toyota are favored across all demographics for their affordability and reliability, even with long-term use. However, the recent global economic downturn and unstable conditions have increased the preference for domestically produced products in the US market.

This trend is particularly clear in automobile sales, with buyers gravitating towards brands like Ford and Chevrolet, known for their affordability and reliability. Reflecting a culture that values practicality, a notably high demand for SUVs exists. A standout example is Chevrolet’s mid-sized SUV, the Equinox, which has recently been completely redesigned. Let’s delve deeper into this model.

Equinox emphasizes practicality

First, let’s take a quick look at Mazda’s midsize SUV, the CX-70, which targets the US market. It is a 5-seater model that shares the powertrain of the 6—to 8-seat CX-90 and is scheduled to be launched without the third row of seats. In the US, it is the biggest competitor to the Chevrolet Equinox.

However, it is unlikely that it will be able to easily beat Equinox, which is most specialized in the US. The full-change model is about to sell, so expectations are high for Equinox. Looking at the exterior changes of the 2025 Equinox, it appears that it is trying to retain its existing appearance while maintaining a similar appearance to Chevrolet’s SUV model, which has recently been entirely changed. Another feature is that LED lights are applied as standard in all trims.

Interior Changes Stand Out
Most Suitable for Family Cars

The change can be felt more clearly indoors, with an 11-inch instrument panel that has changed from analog to digital and an 11.3-inch infotainment screen. The gear lever was changed to a column type, improving interior space utilization and convenience of operation. The number of consumers who feel satisfied in this area has increased.

Equinox is available in front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive; in detail, there are three trims (LT, ACTIV, RS) to choose from. It is equipped with a 1.5L 4-cylinder single turbo engine, producing a maximum output of 175 horsepower. Although we cannot experience the large engine displacement typical of existing American vehicles, it is at a level that makes it an excellent family car for frequent daily driving.

Cheaper than the Mazda CX-90
Use a highly practical American vehicle

The Chevrolet Equinox’s LT trim starts at $28,600, the RS at $33,000, and the ACTIV at $33,000. The Mazda CX-90’s LT trim starts at $40,445, making it feel a bit more expensive than the Equinox.

It is undoubtedly a step above Equinox in terms of performance and design, but if we want to drive a vehicle more practically, Equinox alone seems sufficient. Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Equinox is scheduled to be launched in overseas markets so consumers worldwide can experience an American vehicle’s convenience and spacious interior.
