What’s in Store for the Tesla Model S?

About 12 years have passed since Tesla’s Model S was first released in 2012, but there is still no news about a full-change model. As the first and second facelift versions of the first generation model were launched to improve product quality, there is also high criticism that the design is stuck in the past.

Compared to the first facelift which had major changes to the exterior, the second facelift was launched relatively recently in 2023 and focused on improving the interior, leading to high consumer demand for design changes. Various speculations are also being raised about the Model S.

Tesla’s New Platform

Tesla is reportedly developing an entirely new electric vehicle (EV) based on a new platform. It is reported that the platform will be applied to the Model 2, an entry-level EV that is known to begin full-scale production in early 2025. According to a report by Reuters, the platform NV9X will reportedly be applied to at least two models.

As the possibility that Model S will also be applied is raised, expectations for the new Model S are also rising. This is speculation based on the possibility that there may be more vehicles besides crossovers and SUVs that the new platform will be applied to. If a full-change model is developed by applying the new platform, it is expected to come out with a new design to match it.

Rendering Of The New Model S Revealed

As expectations grew among consumers, Inside EV released renderings related to the design of the new Model S. Since no prototype that could serve as a clue to the design has been released yet, it appears to have been produced by referencing Tesla’s latest design elements, such as the recently released new Model 3.

The front headlamps that are sleeker than before are noticeable. It appears to have made similar changes to the new Model 3, which emphasized sportiness. The front has a smooth vehicle body surface while removing the thin grille shape. The bottom of the bumper gives off the feeling of stabbing toward the front. The bottom had an angled design, revealing a more aggressive aspect than before.

A Futuristic Design With A Horizontal Lightbar

The front and rear overhangs have a fairly short length. Also, it appears that second-row legroom can be maximized by increasing the wheelbase. The circular line drawn along the wheel arch extends to the front, creating an appearance where the front and side designs are connected. The bonnet had voluminous lines to the sides to add a three-dimensional effect.

As for the rear, it was not made public, so we referred to a rendering created by another digital artist. With the horizontal ducktail spoiler and thin light bar applied, the new Model S in the rendering has a more future-oriented image. However, the emphasis on high-performance images through a sleeker appearance than before, such as the fastback’s roof line, was commonly applied in both renderings. Consumer attention is also increasing on what kind of appearance Tesla will unveil with the new Model S.
